Mike Miller's open Letter to PCC Club Members
Members

On reading the section of Mark’s chairman’s chirp regarding Time Trial result and Glen Trueb email I thought it time some home truths about Peninsula Canoe club needed to be spelt out because at this point I am ashamed to be a member of peninsula Canoe Club if Glen’s Email is representative of the attitude and calibre of its members.

Herman - Gouda K1 - 20th June 2009
Race Reports

Lance King (Milnerton) was back to his winning ways on the Berg River again on Saturday 20th June, 2009, when he wrapped up the W.C.C.U. 2009 L/D K1 River Championships on the Berg River over the 32 km section between Hermon (bridge) and Gouda (bridge). However, it was not plain sailing (paddling!) and he had to fight every inch of the way as paddlers around him upped the ante as canoeists approach the annual Berg River Canoe Marathon - now only just over 3 weeks away

SWARTLAND DAY 2 RACE REPORT
Race Reports
Day 2 of the 2009 Swartland Marathon, started very differently to Day 1, with it being dry, although with a strong hint of rain in the air. Paddlers travelling out from Cape Town for day 2 of the marathon, reported having come through heavy falls, but it remained surprisingly dry on the Berg River through Day 2 and although there was a cold North Westerly wind blowing, the sun even made its appearance for the prize giving, held at Bridgetown after the event was over and the final paddler home.

Swartland Day 1 Race Report
The Swartland Marathon

The weather reporters got it right for the start of day 1 of the 2009 Swartland K1 90 kilometre canoe marathon, when, after a perfect Cape winters day on Friday - windless and warm - the heavens opened last night after an impressive stratospheric 'fireworks' display per kind favour of an electric storm that burst over the Mother City in the closing hours of Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning.

And so it was that paddlers and their seconds and supporters arrived at a muddy Skooltjie on the banks of the Berg River outside Wellington for the start of the first 42 kilometres of this race - now in its third year of running by the Peninsula Canoe Club of the Western Cape.

LANCE KING WITHDRAWS FROM THE ‘SWARTLAND’
Upcoming Events
Local canoeing ‘wunderkind’, 21 year old Lance King (Milnerton Canoe Club), who has won all the local W.C.C.U. races that he has entered his season, has been forced to withdraw from the Swartland 90 km River Marathon on instructions from the Marathon Committee of Canoe South Africa, as it is feared that such a gruelling race just 2 weeks before the S.A. Canoe Marathon Championships (Keurbooms River, Plettenberg Bay, 27th and 28th June), will affect his chances of making the National team again.

This K1 event, sponsored by Viljoensdrift Wine Cellars, was raced between the Goree Weir, 5 kilometres upstream from Silverstroomstrand, near Robertson, to Viljoensdrift, covered 28 kilometres of a very full and fast-flowing Breede River, the result of the extensive rains that fell in the Western Cape last week.

PCC Dominate the Milnerton Leg of Double Header 2009
Social

2 NILL down after the canoeing and baloon popping legs, PCC's away team regrouped for the tough one!  The boat race (sometimes called down-downs) calls on will, guts and determination of EVERY member of the team. To date MCC had beaten PCC everytime in this event so it looked bleak for the Zandvlei team.
