Available Training Courses (2012)

Adult and Junior Beginner Training

Gerfried Nebe runs a Beginners’ and Development Programme (see below)  from the club every Tuesday from 4pm to 5pm. This initiative is sponsored by the Club, with some help from the LOTTO, and is free of charge to anyone of all ages interested in learning to canoe. The goal here is to develop paddlers to a level of competency at which they can pass a Flat-water Proficiency Test and then be able to move on to greater things. Contact Gerfried on 072 420 7860.

Intermediate/Advanced (Junior and Senior) Training (ORKA Training)

Peter Cole runs daily training sessions on the water for those who wish to take their paddling to another level, working within a carefully stuctured week-long programme catering for competitive-minded intermediate to elite paddlers aiming for specific targets. The week's programme is emailed in advance to participants and includes off-the-water training; most days involve two training sessions. Peter’s pricing structure and contact details are published on the ORKA website. Pete is in charge of competitive Junior Coaching; last year he trained both the top national male and female junior crews and helped many paddlers perform well across the board in the World Marathon Championships.

Duckling Course

Edgar Boehm's Duckling Course is designed to get novice paddlers on to the river. For further info download the course details here or contact Edgar: 083 301 5001

River Proficiency

The Development Programme

The goals of the programme are to:

Promote and grow the sport of canoeing with active training programs aimed at introducing novices from all ages and cultures.

Develop canoeing as a sport in poorer economic and disadvantaged areas.

Recognise and develop athletic potential.

Encourage keen and active interest from children within the local community.

Promote healthy lifestyle choices, develop life-skills and build confidence.

Help enjoy healthy competition, participating in the many disciplines of canoeing.

Provide fun and social interaction in a safe environment.

Give back to the sport we love and the community we live in.
